Bee poison (apitoxin) – a product of the secretory activity of the glands of workers of the honey bee. It is transparent, slightly yellowish liquid, bitter and burning to the taste, with a peculiar sharp aromatic smell. Density 1,1313 g/ml, pH (according to the hydrogen indicator) 4,5—5,5.
Crystals of dry (additionally lyophilized) apitoxin are white, gray-white, cream or yellowish in color.
It has a sharp honey-like smell and a bitter, pungent taste (dry apitoxin should not be inhaled or consumed, this is a highly toxic poison!)
Bulova carries out its own production of lyophilized apitoxin, with a full production cycle and quality control of the finished product.

Additionally, the finished product is lyophilized with simultaneous cold sterilization using UV radiation in a vacuum at sub-zero temperatures.
Apitoxin is freeze-dried in our own Bulova 02UV freeze dryers. During the final stages of lyophilization, Apitoxin undergoes cold sterilization with ultraviolet radiation. UV-Irradiation occurs inside the drying chamber of the Bulova 02UV freeze dryer under a full vacuum, Since the drying chamber is a vacuum, completely oxygen-free environment, no dangerous ozone is created during Apitoxin’s ultraviolet irradiation (the O3 molecule cannot be released without oxygen). Consequently, product oxidation does not occur during UV irradiation. This type of vacuum sterilization is safe for the product!
We take into account all customer requirements for the storage and transportation of apitoxin. The transportation method is reflected in the product price.
According to North American recommendations, apitoxin should be stored at temperatures no higher than -1°C. Vials containing apitoxin should be transported in a special container with dry ice.
In our opinion, there are risks when defrosting Apitoxin; traces of moisture can inactivate the molecules of its active ingredients. Furthermore, this storage process is complex and expensive.
For the European and Pacific markets, more relaxed recommendations apply: no higher than +15°C.
The Australian market requires lyophilized apitoxin with UV vacuum sterilization, temperature regime not higher than +25 °C.
In our opinion, apitoxin should be lyophilized (additional freeze-drying will gently remove traces of moisture); the completely dry substance can then be safely stored and transported at any temperature, and the shelf life of lyophilized apitoxin will increase to 10 years.
According to Bulova internal technical specifications: the product – Lyophilized Apitoxin in vacuum packaging is intended for long-term storage and transportation at temperatures ranging from -20C to +25C.
Bulova also offers cold sterilization using gamma radiation and UV vacuum sterilization. These are additional services aimed at reducing the bacterial load in the finished product and removing any potential microflora in Aptitoxin brought in from the apiary.
